When naming our CFO Services and Business Mentoring business we wanted the name to encompass our philosophy. The MacGregor Jamee name is about intuitive thinking, commercial wisdom combined with analytical insight, seeing the bigger picture, providing thought leadership and being inspired to help others. Fiona Harnett is the Founder and Director of MacGregor Jamee Limited. Through her leadership the company has helped clients to better understand their financial situation and make informed, commercially focused decisions about their future.
Her drive in running a Virtual CFO and Business Mentoring business is to help small and medium sized New Zealand businesses reach their potential in terms of financial performance, strategic planning and operational effectiveness driven through commercial insight. She believes that many small and medium size businesses would benefit from having executive services provided on a part-time or virtual basis.
Prior to founding MacGregor Jamee Limited Fiona spent over 20 years working in senior roles for Vodafone New Zealand Limited, DB Breweries Limited, HealthSource New Zealand Limited and healthAlliance N.Z. Limited. She has held a range of General Manager and Chief Financial Officer roles. Her corporate and commercial background means you benefit from a Virtual CFO and Business Mentor with strong commercial and operational experience.
She is highly experienced in strategy and operational planning, commercial and accounting advice (product pricing, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting), board reporting and governance, regulatory and statutory compliance, risk management, policy setting and the establishment/management of control environments.
Fiona’s commercial background includes revenue improvement strategies and cost management activities. She has a strong background in developing and implementing robust commercial and financial strategies.
Her operational experience includes the leadership of large and complex operational / transactional processing environments and customer care call centres including turning around under-performing operations.
Having worked in organisations ranging in size from one employee to 10,000+ employees Fiona understands the unique challenges faced by organisations big and small.
Fiona has extensive experience in leading large cross-functional projects including integrating acquired businesses and delivering improved organisational performance through organisation-wide process and/or cultural change. Across her career she has successfully managed a number of large and complex IT system implementations.
She has led teams varying in size from 5 – 400 employees. Fiona has extensive experience in change management, organisation restructuring, management of performance and developing high performing teams / people based cultures.
Fiona is known for building strong stakeholder relationships, providing valuable strategic and operational insight, turning around underperforming functions, improving customer experience and delivering on commitments.
Fiona has 30 years experience as a volunteer with GirlGuiding New Zealand, holding a variety of roles locally, regionally, nationally and globally. She has strong experience managing volunteers, working as a volunteer and working with paid staff.
Fiona is the Chair of the GirlGuiding New Zealand Board. During her tenure she has provided strong leadership to the board and the wider organisation, helping the organisation focus on growth, core services and the diversification of programme delivery options.
Between July 2011 and September 2017 Fiona was a member of the World Board of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. This is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world with ten million Girl Guide and Girl Scout members in 150 countries. The 17 member World Board are elected by the member organisations.
During her time on the World Board Fiona served as Finance Committee Chair and Global Engagement Committee Chair (branding, global advocacy campaigns, global partnerships and communication strategy). She was also a member of the Chair’s Executive Team, Audit committee, HR committee and Fund Development committee.
Fiona is a volunteer mentor with Business Mentors New Zealand.
Fiona is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
